Job Description

This is very responsible professional and administrative work in directing financial accounting activities and involves the management of municipal fiscal affairs including pre-audit, accounting, revenue administration, and financial reporting; and supervision of professional, technical, and clerical employees engaged in the preparation and maintenance of accounting records, financial statements and reports in compliance with fiscal laws and standard accounting procedures. Work also includes participation in the selection, placement, promotion, training, safety, appraisal and discipline of assigned employees. An employee in this class exercises considerable initiative, independent judgment and administrative ability in planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the activities of the Finance Department.

Salary: $106,951 - $137,966

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS. APPLICANTS MUST:

  • Have a valid Bachelor’s degree with major course work in accounting, including registration as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Public Finance Officer.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally, and in writing.
  • Have considerable progressively responsible experience in municipal accounting, including supervisory experience.
  • Have extensive knowledge of the modern principles and practices of public finance administration and of modern governmental accounting principles.
  • Have extensive knowledge of financial software and skill in implementing, managing and controlling its application.
  • Have extensive enterprise accounting software experience.
  • Be able to prepare year-end financial statements, adjusting journal entries and related workpapers.
  • Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, an applicant must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS. PREFERRED APPLICANTS:

  • Have thorough knowledge of organization and department functions of municipal government; laws and ordinances governing municipal accounting systems; procedures as prescribed by GASB, FASB, GOA and Florida state statutes; and principles and practices of data processing and its application for financial and accounting data systems.
