Job Description

The Position

The City of Yuma is seeking an experienced leader to serve as the next Director of Finance in a dynamic, financially stable organization. This position plans, directs, and manages all of the City’s financial operations. The Director of Finance is responsible for financial analysis, reporting, revenue forecasting, investment oversight, debt oversight, and providing leadership and direction to the Finance Department. The Director also plays an integral role in the development of the annual budget. This position reports directly to the City Administrator and advises City leadership on all financial matters.

Education and Experience

The minimum qualifications are a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, accounting, finance, or a closely related field and five years of supervision or management experience in a local government financial setting or similar organization with fund accounting. A demonstrated understanding of municipal finance, fund accounting, special revenue funds, and enterprise funds, as well as government accounting standards (GASB), is also required.

Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, Certified Public Financial Officer (CPFO), and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation. In addition, the City seeks a leader with high emotional intelligence, experience growing and developing staff, and providing guidance and advice on financial matters to the City Administrator and department leaders.

Compensation

The anticipated hiring range for this position is between $130,000 – $149,000, depending on qualifications and with a robust benefits package.
