Job Description

Muskego, Wisconsin - Muskego is located in southern Waukesha County, within the Milwaukee Metropolitan Area. With a population of approximately 25,000, it offers a balance of commercial and residential districts along with beautiful lakes, many parks and recreational opportunities. With great schools and one of the lowest crime rates in the state, Muskego has become an ideal location for families. The City of Muskego is a full-service municipal operation in a strong fiscal position. In response to an upcoming retirement, the city seeks a skilled and collaborative public finance professional with strong communication skills to serve as a candidate for it’s next Finance Director.

The Finance Director is a key part of the city’s leadership team and oversees an operating budget of approximately 18 million along with utilities and capital. The City boasts an Aa1 bond rating and also maintains a healthy fund balance. The Finance Director reports to the Mayor and supervises the Finance and Administration Department as well as overseeing contracted assessing services.

The City seeks a technically skilled and team-oriented director to manage a variety of financial and administrative activities. These include collection of all City revenue, investment of City Funds, overall cash management, the processing of all accounting transactions (payables, receivables, general ledger, payroll, utility accounting, etc.) assessing, capital planning, year-end audit and risk management functions. The position also produces and presents the City’s annual budget.

The City’s next Finance Director joins a collaborative leadership team; the Director helps sustain the City’s fiscal health and stability and assures that the City achieves its financial objectives through solid fiscal planning, budgetary controls, and the maintenance of financial accounts and records.

Minimum qualifications for the position include:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field or experience;
  • Six years progressively responsible municipal finance experience or a combination of education and experience that provides the equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Working knowledge of financial management/ERP systems;
  • Knowledge of municipal government accounting practices, and planning. Related certifications preferred and
  • Masters degree and or CPA preferred.

The salary range for this position is $115,628 to $150,278 DOQ along with a great benefits package.
