The City of Novi is seeking a dynamic, strategic Finance Director to lead its financial operations and help drive long-term fiscal sustainability for one of Michigan's most desirable communities.

Reporting directly to the City Manager, this high-impact leadership role is at the center of Novi's continued growth and success. You will guide the City's financial strategy, oversee budget development, and ensure resources are aligned with organizational priorities. From preparing and managing the annual budget to analyzing financial performance and advising leadership on economic trends, you'll play a critical role in shaping sound financial decisions.

As Finance Director, you will lead long-range planning efforts, including the Six-Year Capital Improvement Plan, while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements. You'll oversee key financial functions such as audit coordination, bond issuances, utility billing, payroll, and accounts payable, while also enforcing purchasing policies that promote transparency and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, you'll manage insurance renewals and support capital project financing, helping Novi maintain its exceptional AAA bond rating and reputation for financial excellence.

WHAT YOU BRING

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business management, or a related field, required
5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, including supervisory roles, within a municipal government, required
Deep expertise in municipal accounting, budgeting, treasury, and debt management
Proven strengths in leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, and communication
Preferred Qualifications

CPA, CPFO, CMA, or a master's degree in finance or a related field
Compensation

Salary range: $135,000 – $160,000, depending on experience and qualifications
