Job Description
SUMMARY:
Position is responsible for overseeing the processing of Bi-weekly, Monthly and Electoral payrolls. Ensures accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, and company deductions. Responsible for handling any discrepancy's related to any payroll related issue. Work involves contact with departments and county employees as well as other agencies. Facilitates the accurate and timely remittance of payrolls, withholdings, and related taxes. Collaborates with the Controller or DCFO as required to ensure successful implementation of essential duties and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the preparation and processing of payroll; review and ensure accuracy of approved timesheets; track and deduct all garnishments and other special payroll deductions.
- Creates all payroll reports and maintains all payroll files in accordance with established Company guidelines.
- Process manual checks when required.
- Keep track of pay periods, hourly wages, salaries, overtime, sick and vacation days of employees.
- Communicate with Human Resources to make necessary changes/updates to employee files.
- Maintains the confidentiality and integrity of employees' and County's payroll information
- Remitting payroll taxes and governmental reporting timely.
- Create payroll disbursements through Accounts Payable
- Compiling and uploading retirement reports along with sending bank wires for retirement contributions.
- Assist with the Annual Workers Compensation Report
- Manage employee direct deposit accounts and initiate ACH reversals when necessary.
- Ensures the timely payment of employees - Biweekly, Monthly, and Electoral
- Responds to and resolves any inquiries regarding paychecks or payroll reporting.
- Responsible for preparing quarterly taxes and submitting reports in a timely manner.
- Manage year-end W2 audit/corrections and distribution for all employees.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Finance or Assistance Finance Director

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Management, or similar field is preferred
Some experience or knowledge in local government Payroll Administration is required
One year of Payroll experience in a high-volume local government or similar environment is preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum 18 years of age
Must be able to type 45 WPM
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License (Class C) and a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR) if assigned job duties requiring the use of a vehicle
