Senior Accountant
Job Announcement: SENIOR ACCOUNTANT at City of Webster, TX.
The City of Webster seeks an experienced and efficient Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant maintains the general ledger by preparing and recording journal entries and budget adjustments, reconciling general ledger accounts, performing analytical functions to support revenue and expense trend analysis, and coordinating information gathering and validation with other departments and employees. Specific duties include accounting for capital improvement projects, project analysis, fixed asset reporting, reconciliation of general ledger and bank accounts, participation in the budget process, year-end process, and annual audits. Also prepares quarterly financial reports and provides instruction and training to other employees.
The ideal candidate has knowledge and experience with:
- Finance and accounting principles, practices, and methods applicable to municipal finance, financial reporting requirements, and municipal finance operations,
- Extensive experience with spreadsheets, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and look-up tables,
- Working knowledge of municipal finance software and municipal budget processes
- Effectively communicating and presenting complex principles and facts,
- Federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies applicable to governmental and public services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university
- At least three (3) years of progressively responsible accounting and financial analysis experience in a senior or lead role within a municipality or governmental organization
- Ability to obtain a Surety Bond
- Experience with Incode or similar governmental financial software
- Public finance, governmental finance, and/or public funds investment certifications are preferred.
Special Abilities:
- This is an Essential Services position; employee will be required to provide services in the course and scope of employment for the benefit of the public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of Webster’s citizens. FEMA certifications will be required within 6 months of hire. Public Funds Investment Act training will be required within 6 months of hire.
Salary and Benefits Include:
- Salary range is: Minimum $61,021, Midpoint $ 74,354, Maximum $ 92,855. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience. Qualifies for one-step increase after six-month probationary period.
