Chief Financial Officer/Director of Management and Finance, Arlington County, Virginia 

“Maria Meredith is a shining example of resilience, innovation, and unwavering dedication to the betterment of our community,” said Comptroller Karen Spence. Maria began her career in technology and now serves as chief financial officer/finance director for the Department of Management and Finance, overseeing financial operations, budgeting, procurement, and real estate assessment. Her management was key in transitioning the County from paper-based financial and HR systems to a unified digital platform—an effort marked by meticulous planning, on-time delivery, and fiscal discipline. She established an internal audit function and a Fraud, Waste, and Abuse program, further strengthening public accountability. Throughout her tenure, the County has consistently retained its AAA bond rating. Maria also guided the adoption of a flexible telework model that continues to support efficiency and talent retention.
