For students exploring what a future in government might look like, access to comprehensive conversations can matter just as much as access to internships or job postings. Hearing how professionals found their footing in public service—how they built expertise, navigated challenges, and stepped into leadership—helps bring clarity to a field that can feel distant, even though its impact is everywhere.

For the past three years, the Black Caucus has recruited and empowered Historically Black College or University (HBCU) students to engage in state and city government finance and management. Today, the Caucus continues to build a strong coalition of HBCU students committed to developing their skills and preparing a successful professional path in public finance.
