Black Caucus Member Spotlight: Tonyan Geans
Tonyan Poole-Geans is a senior accountant for the City of Dallas, Texas
Tonyan Poole-Geans, an accountant and founder of TDJ Creative Business Solutions, was born in Michigan. As a child, she grew up as a pastor's daughter and was very involved in the church. Though during her youth, she wanted nothing more than to play with her friends, as she became an adult, the church and what it represented became more important to her than anything. The faith that God provided, gave Tonyan the courage to speak and interact with people, while also helping them. She knew this would eventually not only help her to grow, but it would also benefit the community.
For the past five years, Tonyan has worked as a senior accountant for the City of Dallas, Texas. She loves working with her team to accomplish their goals, which includes projects in accounting, budgeting, FAA Financial reporting, and the ACI Financial Survey for aviation. Tonyan holds a Certified Green Belt in Lean Process Improvement.
Tonyan is an alumna of Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan, where she earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree in Accounting. Since graduating, Tonyan has accumulated more than ten years of experience working in Accounting as the former president and CEO of Geans & Associates and by providing accounting services for companies in the trucking, healthcare, professional services, and nonprofit fields.
Tonyan’s belief is that knowledge is life changing. At her company TDJ Creative Business Solutions, she combines her years of experience with her passion for helping others by handling taxation services and encouraging small businesses to accomplish their goals.
She serves as a blogger on her site, Life Does Happen, where she gives readers tools to feel inspired in everything they do. The stories and resources guide others in finding empowerment in their lives. Also, she is the co-author of The Glambitious Guide to being an Entrepreneur.
Tonyan finds inspiration in her family to succeed in her various roles. Her parents, John and Pearl Poole, always taught her to put Christ first, love others unconditionally, help those in need, and be a source of encouragement. Cherishing her family, especially the positive influences of her sisters, Dr. Carmen Thomas and Mrs. Laquetta Smith, Tonyan has been able to be that source of encouragement in and outside of her accounting career. She volunteers with several community programs within the Dallas area, including PrayHers–Women’s Outreach Program, Save A Child Foundation, the Ronald McDonald House Of Charities, and God’s Leading Ladies of the Potters House, which awarded her with their God’s Leading Ladies Award. She has also spent time serving as a missionary, where she prays for the sick.
Tonyan hopes that she can be a blessing to others. Whether she's working as an accountant, blogger, or missionary, her purpose is to help others, while creating a lasting legacy for her family.
