What Leadership style do you find to be most successful and why?
The leadership style I find the most effective for me as a team member is one where the leader is both open to learning new skills and highly knowledgeable in their role. I appreciate a leader who recognizes accomplishments, actively promotes professional development, and encourages growth within the team. Additionally, a personable leader who is approachable and treats everyone with respect—regardless of their position—creates an environment where everyone can feel comfortable seeking guidance and support.
What is a challenge that you had in your career and how did you overcome it?
A significant challenge I faced in my career was feeling stuck. Although I'm still early in my career, I believed I had everything figured out after earning my bachelor’s degree from Tennessee State University in 2019. At the time, I was certain I wanted a career in banking. However, after some time in the field, I realized it wasn’t the right fit for me. So, I returned to school, earned my master’s degree from Christian Brothers University while working in revenue at FedEx Services.
After completing my master’s, I expected new opportunities to open within FedEx, but no promotion came, leaving me frustrated. Despite having two degrees, I struggled to find a role that matched my aspirations due to limited experience in finance. Discouraged, I made the mistake of not applying for roles I assumed I wasn’t qualified for. Eventually, I overcame this feeling of being at a roadblock by putting myself out there and trusting my potential as a fast learner. I realized I am a young professional who deserves the chance to step into roles I once thought were out of reach simply because I didn’t have decades of experience.
What are your favorite ways to relieve stress and/or decompress?
My favorite ways to relieve stress and decompress are traveling and spending time with family and friends. Being with loved ones helps me forget about everything going on around me and just enjoy the present moment. Traveling, on the other hand, is my happy place. It allows me to see the world from new perspectives and brings a refreshing sense of renewal. Breaking away from your daily routines is important because your day to day can get overwhelming and tiring, so it's essential to take time for activities that truly bring joy.
