ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Finance Technician, you will play a vital role in maintaining, compiling, and analyzing financial data to provide accurate and timely information for sound financial decisions. This position supports the City’s financial operations through accounts payable and receivable processing, capital asset management, reconciliations, and preparation of detailed financial reports. You will assist with audits and budget preparation, provide training on financial systems, and identify opportunities for process improvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform technical support for accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, payroll, and budgeting.
- Prepare, reconcile, and maintain financial data and reports; research and resolve discrepancies.
- Process accounts payable invoices, refunds, and one-time payments.
- Collect funds, process deposits, and reconcile accounts receivable.
- Maintain capital asset records and conduct physical inventories.
- Support month-end and year-end closing, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- Assist with annual audit and citywide budget preparation.
- Respond to inquiries from the public and City employees regarding financial matters.
- Oversee mailroom functions and manage office supply inventory.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting principles.
- Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Clear and concise communication skills, both oral and written.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Two years of progressively responsible technical accounting and/or budgeting experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by coursework in accounting or related field; associate’s degree preferred.
