FLC Update: One Big Beautiful Bill Act
On July 4, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) was signed into law. GFOA is continuing to assess the implications of the budget reconciliation bill. While GFOA members’ advocacy efforts – including telling your stories at builtbybonds.com – resulted in the full preservation of tax-exempt municipal bonds, there are several other provisions of note.

Kat Roch
For Kat Roch, budget controller for the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, pursuing the Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) designation was an opportunity to deepen her expertise and advance her career in government finance. Through her certification journey, she explored areas beyond her day-to-day responsibilities, like procurement and compensation and benefits, while strengthening her understanding of budgeting and accounting. The experience also introduced her to new strategies and best practices for addressing common challenges in government finance. Kat encourages others in public finance to pursue the certification, noting that it provides a broad, practical foundation for those looking to grow as leaders and make lasting, positive impacts within their organizations.
