Under general direction of the Deputy Director of Finance, plans, directs and administers the general accounting function; supervises six (6) employees; and manages people effectively. Participates in the daily operations and activities of a variety of accounting functions, including performing complex and technical accounting, financial reporting, payroll, accounts and grants receivable, accounts payable, cash receipts, project accounting, capital assets, and debt administration. Meets deadlines, directs accountants with analytical and organized mind; implements internal control procedures and ensures accounting standards are met; coordinates and provides support for the annual audit; and has excellent management skills. Patient and willing to teach; flexible with time and staff. Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. Equivalent to a four-year degree from an accredited college with major coursework in accounting, finance, public or business administration, or a related field, and five (5) or more years of increasingly responsible technical accounting experience, preferably in municipal accounting.
