The City of Independence, Missouri is seeking an experienced professional to be its Finance Controller. This newly created position assists the Chief Financial Officers and expands financial reporting and managerial accounting responsibilities across City operations, with a focus on all three City of Independence utilities: Power & Light (IPL), Water, and Water Pollution Control (WPC). The City’s 2019 – 2020 fiscal year budget is $320 million; the utility operations have a combined 2019-2020 budget of nearly $217 million. The Controller position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and supervises two full-time accountants. The Controller position requires a Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Accounting, Business, Economics or a related field; and five years of progressively responsible governmental or utility financial management experience; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. CPFO (certified public finance officer) and/or MBA are preferred. Qualified candidates will have at least three years of management and supervisory experience. Financial experience in the electric power industry is a plus. The 2019 pay range is $82,070 to $123,108, depending on qualifications.
