Membership, Registrations, and Substitutions

How do I register for the conference?

Access the conference registration form, group registration form, and register online.

When is the early discount deadline to register for the Annual Conference and preconference seminars?

Receive the early discounted registration fee when your registration is postmarked and paid by February 25, 2022.

My government is a member of GFOA. Does that make me eligible to receive the membership rate for the Annual Conference?

Only individuals listed as members of GFOA are eligible to receive the member rate, but we do allow for a one-for-one substitution for government entities if one of your members cannot attend the Annual Conference—just mark the information in section 1 on the conference registration form or email the name and complete contact information (title, government, address, email address, and phone number) of the replacement to conference@gfoa.org. It is also easy to add individuals to your government’s membership by submitting the membership application.

I am a member of my state GFOA. Does this make me eligible to receive the GFOA member discount rates?

Membership in a state or provincial association does not transfer to national GFOA membership. GFOA members receive discounted rates, and if you join today you can take advantage of the lower member rate as well as receive $25 off your conference registration fee. Please visit GFOA’s membership webpage to read about fees and you can join by entering the new member fee on the conference registration form. If you have any questions about membership, please email membership@gfoa.org.

When I register online, is my GFOA membership number my password?

Each GFOA member who has used the eStore would have created a unique login and password that is different than their membership number. If you have misplaced your login and/or password information, we are happy to help you. Please email logins@gfoa.org.

I need to register multiple staff from my office. Can I create an account online and register everyone under that account?

At this time groups of individuals cannot be registered together online, but please submit the group of registrations together with payment via mail, fax, or e mail them to conference@gfoa.org. Click here to  complete the group registration form.

What is the group discount on the conference registration fee?

Receive a 10 percent discount on your conference registration if three or more people from your jurisdiction are attending the annual conference (registrations must be submitted and paid together). This discount does not apply to preconference seminars. If you plan to sign up with 10 or more colleagues, email conference@gfoa.org for discounted fees. Complete the conference registration form and submit it with the group registration form.

Can I register for the conference over the phone?

We offer multiple ways you can register for the conference, but we do not accept registrations over the phone. Please use the method that best works for you. You can register online using GFOA’s eStore or you can submit the conference registration form (and group registration form if needed) via mail (203 N. LaSalle St., Suite 2700, Chicago, IL 60601), fax (312.284.1224), or email it to conference@gfoa.org.

Once I submit my conference registration, will a confirmation be sent to me?

Please keep a watch on your email as a copy of the confirmation and invoice will be sent to the registrant only as a PDF attachment from training@gfoa.org. If you have not yet done so, please add this address to your allowed senders list to make sure you receive the confirmation.

What are the dates for the cancellation and refund policy?

  • No fee for cancellations received before April 29, 2022.
  • Cancellations postmarked between April 30, 2022, and May 24, 2022, will be refunded, less a 50 percent service fee.
  • No refunds will be issued after May 25.

What meals are included with the conference registration fee?

Coffee

  • Monday, June 6 and Tuesday, June 7 (Coffee will be available before the general sessions)
  • Wednesday, June 8 (Coffee will be available in the morning)

LUNCH

  • Lunch will be provided to all registered delegates, but not to exhibitors and guests. Lunches are scheduled on Monday, June 6, 12:10 pm – 1:30 pm, and Tuesday, June 7, 12:15 pm – 1:30 pm

I have a past credit for a conference registration. Is my registration for the Austin conference complete?

If you have received a past credit, we ask that you please complete the conference registration form to submit to GFOA. In the fee section, please reference the past credit.

First-Time Annual Conference Attendee Scholarships

Who is eligible to apply for the scholarship?

GFOA encourages national GFOA active government members who are first-time conference attendees to apply. Associate (private-sector) members are not eligible for the scholarship. Membership in a state or provincial association does not transfer to national GFOA membership. If you are not an active government member of the GFOA, you can join the association using your scholarship application form—no additional paperwork required!

What does the scholarship include?

The scholarship will be awarded in the amount of the full-conference registration fee* to participate in the 116th Annual Conference, June 5‒8, 2022, in Austin, Texas.*Scholarship recipients are responsible for their own travel and hotel expenses.

Does the scholarship also include the preconference seminar registration fees?

The scholarship does not include registration for preconference seminars. GFOA’s preconference seminars provide an opportunity for attendees to get in- depth training on topics vitally important to finance officers. Come to Austin on Friday, June 3, 2022, and/or Saturday, June 4, 2022, and multiply the benefits you’ll get by signing up for these educational  offerings. I received the first-time attendee scholarship in 2020 for the New Orleans Annual Conference, which was canceled. Do I automatically receive the scholarship for the 2022 Annual Conference in Austin?

Thank you for applying for a past scholarship. You will need to apply again for this year’s conference by submitting the application.

I attended GFOA’s Virtual Conference, but have not intended an in-person Annual Conference. Am I eligible to apply for the scholarship?

Yes! We believe the in-person Annual Conference is a unique experience. Participation in the 2020 or 2021 Virtual Conference does not impact your eligibility for the scholarship.

I am a current GFOA active government member and attended only one day of a past Annual Conference. Am I still eligible to apply for the scholarship?

We thank you for your past participation in the GFOA Annual Conference. One-day conference attendance is considered participation in the Annual Conference. The scholarship is awarded to GFOA active government members who will be participating in the Annual Conference for the very first time.

I was a member of GFOA years ago and attended past conferences. I am interested in joining the association again. Would I be eligible to apply for the scholarship?

The scholarship is only awarded to GFOA active government members who have never attended a GFOA Annual Conference.

How many scholarships will be awarded?

Fifty scholarships will be awarded per state/province.

How do I apply for the scholarship?

Please complete the application and e mail it to firstannualconference@gfoa.org.

Do I need to submit a deposit to “hold” the scholarship?

Applicants must submit a credit card valid through July 2022, which will be charged $125 ONLY if the applicant is awarded a scholarship but does not attend the Annual Conference, unless they contact GFOA to withdraw from the program by May 6, 2022 (no penalty for withdrawal). GFOA will charge the $125 no-show fee to discourage anyone from taking up one of the fifty spots allotted for their state/province if they do not intend to attend the Annual Conference. If you need to cancel for any reason, please contact us so we can offer your scholarship to an applicant on the waitlist.

Is there a deadline date to submit the scholarship application?

To help us plan ahead, we encourage you to send in your application as soon as possible. The scholarship applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through May 6, 2022, or until that state/province reaches its allotment of scholarships.

Is my application complete once I submit it?

An application is complete when all parts of the form have been filled out and payment (credit card or check) has been received by GFOA.

How do I know if I was selected to receive a scholarship?

A member of GFOA’s team will email you to let you know if you have been selected to  receive this year’s scholarship.

Guests

I’m already registered for the conference. How do I reserve badges for my guests?

It’s easy to reserve badges for your guests. You can indicate your guests on the conference registration form you submit to GFOA.  You can also add guest badges through your online account on the eStore by selecting the “Add/Edit Badges” tab. You can also request additional guest badges by emailing badges@gfoa.org. If your guests are children/young adults under 21, please list their age. There is no fee to register guests or children before arriving at the Annual Conference. Once onsite, guest registration will incur a $25/per badge fee.

What events are my guests allowed to attend?

We encourage your guests to attend the Sunday Welcome Reception. Please go ahead and register them so they can receive a badge to access the event. They are also invited to attend the Tuesday night Closing Event. Purchase tickets online on GFOA’s eStore or by selecting the event on the conference registration form you submit to GFOA.

Preconference Seminars

What are preconference seminars?

Maximize your educational experience by participating in seminars designed so you can take a more in-depth look into current issues or topics before the conference even begins! GFOA’s preconference seminars offer a great opportunity for you to earn additional CPE credits. This year’s preconference seminars will take place on Friday, June 3, 2022, and Saturday, June 4, 2022.

What are this year’s preconference offerings? How do I register? Will breakfast or lunch be available?

Taking an afternoon session on Friday or Saturday?

An afternoon snack will be available in your session room.

Taking a morning session on Saturday?

A continental breakfast will be available in your session room.

Taking a morning and afternoon session on Saturday?

Does the 10 percent discount for a group of three or more people attending the conference include the preconference seminars?

The discount only applies to the Annual Conference registration fee.

Where are the preconference seminars being held?

They are being held at the following address: Austin Convention Center, 500 E Cesar Chavez Street, Austin, Texas 78701

Is the fee for preconference seminars per course?

Yes, there is a fee to attend each preconference seminar. (i.e., if a government member wants to attend two preconference seminars, they would pay $170 for each of those two seminars, for a total of $340, etc.)

How many sessions will be available?

How many CPE credits are available?

It is possible to earn more than 20 continuing professional education (CPE) credits at GFOA’s Annual Conference. Additional CPE credits can be earned by attending one or more of GFOA’s preconference seminars.

GFOA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be submitted to the National Registry of CPE Sponsors through its website: www.nasbaregistry.org.

Do I need to pre-select the concurrent sessions I plan to attend at conference?

You can get a jumpstart and plan ahead by reviewing session information before the conference, but you have the flexibility to choose which sessions you want to attend upon your arrival. Keep watch here for a schedule of sessions.

Who are this year’s keynote speakers?

Keynote presentations will focus on delivering a perspective about current events, public finance knowledge, and essential leadership skills that can benefit all finance professionals. Stay tuned to gfoa.org/conference for announcements.

Will recordings be available of the sessions to purchase?

All attendees will receive access to session audio recordings to listen to on demand through GFOA’s learning management system (LMS). (Listening to recorded sessions are not eligible for CPE credit). Recordings will be available by July 1, 2022.

How do I register my exhibit booth staff?

The Exhibitor Badge provides access to the exhibit hall and welcome reception only. Three booth staff registrations are included with each 10x10 space.

The additional exhibitor badge fee is $295 before May 13, 2022, and $495 after May 13, 2022.

The Exhibitor/Delegate Badge provides access to all educational sessions, delegate lunches, exhibit hall, and welcome reception. The fee is $610.

When will I receive my exhibitor badge?

Exhibitor and exhibitor/delegate badges will be available for pick up onsite at the Austin Convention Center.

How do I make a change and/or addition to our booth staff?

If you have any changes or additions to make to your booth staff, please email conference@gfoa.org as soon as possible before the start of the conference. If you are interested in exhibiting, click here to access the contract and floorplan. If you have a company to suggest that you think would be a great exhibitor for GFOA’s Annual Conference, please email conference@gfoa.org.

Housing

Who is GFOA’s official housing company?

Key Bookings is the ONLY official housing company for this event and will not contact attendees directly to make a reservation. Booking through GFOA’s official housing provider will ensure that attendees receive the GFOA discounted rate and are working with a reputable company and that credit card information is secure.

What hotels are included in the official GFOA block? How do I reserve a room?

Will group airline discounts be offered?

With lower fares, set group discounts are not available.

GFOA Events

Will there be a Welcome Reception and Closing Event?

A Welcome Reception will take place on Sunday, June 5, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Austin Convention Center. Drinks and appetizers will be available. Attendees, guests, sponsors, and exhibitors are encouraged to attend. This is a complimentary event. Stay tuned for additional details.

Will there be a Closing Event?

The Closing Event will take place on Tuesday, June 7, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Austin City Live. A dessert reception and music will be provided. Attendees, guests, sponsors, and exhibitors are encouraged to attend. Purchase tickets online or submit the conference registration form indicating your ticket quantity to GFOA. Will photos and/or videos be taken during the conference and events?
