Darrel graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance from Florida Atlantic University and holds a Master’s of Science in Finance with a concentration in financial risk management from Florida International University.  He is a currently a member of the GFOA Treasury & Investment Management Committee, the Florida League of Cities Investment Advisory Committee, and the Florida League of Cities Legislative Policy Committee on Finance, Taxation & Personnel.  He is a past Board Member of the FGFOA and a past president of its South Florida chapter.

Darrel has been a speaker at the GFOA and FGFOA Annual Conferences and other events.  He has attended the Leadership Broward Senior Executive Orientation and he has attended the GFOA Advanced Government Finance Institute.  Darrel is also a recipient of the Florida League of Cities Home Rule Hero Award for outspoken protection for municipal home rule.

Darrel has been working with the City of Weston since 2006 and is currently the City’s Assistant City Manager/Chief Financial Officer.  His responsibilities vary from investment and risk management; oversight of accounting and budget; and oversight of technology services, building code services and code enforcement.
