CPFO Spotlight: Jennifer Ustation
Jennifer Ustation, CPFO, is finance director for the City of Beaumont, California.
Why did you want to become a CPFO?
I wanted to become a CPFO so I could broaden my knowledge in Finance. It started as a pursuit to learn more and grow in the field but during the process I promoted and then it became about doing all I could to better serve my agency and community.
What did you learn going through the process?
Patience. I learned to enjoy the journey of learning and that enjoying the process will help you see it through. I also learned that there is always more to learn.
How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession or how do you hope it will make an impact?
It has already helped me in my profession. I take what I learn from the materials and apply it to my everyday work. It has strengthened my knowledge and given me confidence that helps me navigate challenges that come my way.
What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO?
I would say that what you gain from the program is more than just a certification, you are gaining invaluable skills such as specialized knowledge, problem solving, time management, adaptability, and networking. The resources provided within the program will help you in your personal life as well as your career.
