CPFO Spotlight: Shawn Guan

1. Why did you want to become a CPFO? 

I wanted to pursue a career in the government finance area. I knew that working hard and passing all CPFO exams would enhance my fundamental skills and improve my knowledge of public finance.

2. What did you learn going through the process? 

You have to make commitments and efforts and study hard. Ensure you understand all the concepts and the reasons for GFOA's best practices.

3. How has becoming a CPFO made an impact on you in your profession?  

The CPFO certification shows my capabilities to take on more responsibilities, so I can make more contributions to public education and students.

4. What would you say to others thinking about becoming a CPFO? 

Don’t be scared by the task that you must pass seven exams. It is easier to knock down the exam one by one. Ensure you understand the terms on the exam study terms and go through all the materials listed on it.
