The City of Aspen Finance Department is looking for an individual with professional budget development experience to lead and manage our City’s financial planning process.

The City of Aspen Finance Department is responsible for administering all financial record keeping and reporting functions for the City of Aspen. Several of the functions handled by the Finance Team include:
Developing and presenting the fiscal budget and financial statements for the City
Maintaining debt and treasury management, tax audits, budget control, purchasing accounting activities and general administrative functions
Providing support and advice to other City departments, the City Manager, and City Council in matters related to financial issues, policy and strategic planning
The Budget Manager provides expert-level customer service and consultation to City Departments and in the management of the City budget. In addition, this role provides specific oversight to the financial planning operations to generate and monitor the financial outlook of the City. Additional responsibilities include supporting the procurement process and team leadership overall.
This position provides hands-on support for timely completion of budget documents and is responsible for creating and presenting materials of the annual budget to City Council and the public. Overseeing a budget team of two staff, this position also manages the City’s ERP system as it related to budget development and capital planning modules. The Budget Manager works in tandem with the Controller to identify and facilitate the development of needed financial reports for the organization and works on special projects related to the financial cost benefit analysis for departments/funds.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics or related degree.
Experience: Four years of progressively responsible professional experience in Finance or Accounting, at least two years of which should be in public sector budgeting. Previous experience should at least one year of supervisory experience.
Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel (highly proficient), governmental accounting systems, and Email.
Licenses & Certifications: Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date.
Essential Physical Requirements:
Lifting & Carrying: Occasionally up to 25 lbs. such as files, boxes, etc.
Physical: Reaching with hands and arms, standing, walking, sitting, typing, talking, crouching, kneeling, grasping, seeing and hearing.
Indoors: Office environment.
Outdoors/Off-Site: Meetings, trainings, and conferences at a variety of city facilities and areas.
