This webinar will explore the history of local government finance in South Africa. It will address some of the historical challenges that have been overcome including the peaceful transition after 1994, the creation of a grant system via national legislation and various other transition related topics. It will address the implementation of a new government finance system post-apartheid which included the establishment of an accounting standards board and development of accounting standards. Finally, it will examine the impact of these changes on local government administration broadly and the remaining challenges.
