ICMA’s Leadership Institute on Race, Equity, and Inclusion was established to support the Executive Board’s action steps announced in June 2021. The purpose of the Institute is geared towards three primary objectives:
- To explore the barriers to and identify how to start and continue community conversation about race, equity, and inclusion.
- To create a cohort of executives who will actively participate in an ongoing conversation, sharing challenges and successes in increasing equity and inclusion in local government and addressing racial issues.
- Participants will be representative of the diversity within ICMA and will be at the manager, assistant, or deputy level to create work that will benefit the most senior ICMA members and thus have the greatest impact on communities. Some exceptions may apply.
The program lasts approximately twelve to eighteen months and participants will primarily interact virtually due to the ongoing pandemic. If selected, there will be no cost to participants but current ICMA membership is a requirement. We encourage members of the Black Caucus to apply as this is a great opportunity for professional development on a critical topic for finance officers. If you are interested and plan to apply, please let Mark Mack or Michael Belarmino know, or reach out if you have additional questions or would like further insight.
