Job Description

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), Payroll office is recruiting for an Assistant Manager, Payroll. This position reports to the Manager, NSHE Payroll Services. This position is located on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.

The Assistant Manager, Payroll is responsible for providing support for the operation of the NSHE Payroll Department, including supervision of department in the Payroll Manager’s absence. The payroll services provided by this office encompasses the entire System. Operation of the NSHE Payroll Services must be in conformity with state and federal regulations, Board of Regents policies, institutional budget constraints and accepted accounting practices.

Duties Include

  • Payroll Operations
  • Acts as subject matter expert across all institutions regarding payroll processes. Performs testing and research of Workday payroll system issues and coordinates fixes with System Business Analysts. Also advises the governance groups for any configuration change requests and testing processes
  • Oversees the processing of all three monthly payroll runs for all NSHE employees across all campuses as well as assists with the payment of all payroll liabilities for all campuses
  • Assists with the payroll validation of semi-monthly and monthly net payroll funding and payroll liabilities for all of NSHE
  • Assists with the implementation of payroll integration requirements, new functionality, and testing
  • Develop and assist in evaluation and development of payroll policies and procedures
  • Review internal reports and reconciliation payroll liability accounts
  • Assist in preparation of federal Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax withholding reports and forms with necessary adjustments
  • Ensure payroll systems are working as designed and implements efficient business processes necessary to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing and reporting
  • Processes System payrolls for on demand checks and semi and monthly payroll cycles
  • Work with Financial Business Analyst’s on all outstanding fringe accounts
  • Coordinates and validates payments to deduction recipients and audits deduction reports for accuracy
  • Preparation of Reports
  • Prepare ad hoc reports requested by UNR, NSHE offices, other campuses and the press
  • Compiles payment information from PERS deduction reports and completes and files state retirement information/corrections
  • Human Resources Management and Supervision
  • Trains, supervises and audits Payroll staff work
  • Reviews work of staff and completes evaluations on employees
  • Sets up interviews for prospective employees, participates in interview process and offers input into the hiring decisions
  • Liaison Activities
  • Interact with NSHE campus/office representatives regarding payroll issues, problem resolution, information gathering and reporting
  • Interact with various human resource offices regarding payroll issues both North and South
  • Interact with IT and SCS on system related issues
  • Administrative Duties
  • Serve as Payroll Manager in the Payroll Manager’s absence
