Budget Manager
The City of Avondale is seeking an experienced and strategic Budget Manager to lead the development and oversight of the City’s operating and capital budgets. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Budget, this key leadership role plays a critical part in advancing the City’s financial goals, long-term planning efforts, and commitment to fiscal responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The ideal candidate for this position will be an effective leader with extensive experience in public sector budgeting, financial planning, and performance management. They possess strong analytical and communication skills, enabling them to present complex financial data to diverse stakeholders, including city council, city management, staff, and the public. The candidate demonstrates a proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving and possesses a thorough understanding of budgeting principles and software systems, economic and legislative impacts on municipal budgets, and has a proven track record of driving innovation, efficiency, and accountability in city operations.
They will oversee budget and grant personnel and be responsible for maintaining compliance of the budget, grants and development impact fee program. Collaboration with city management, department staff and external stakeholders will be key to understanding the City’s budget philosophy, budgeting principles, and best practices.
The successful candidate will support and empower the Finance and Budget Department team, promoting exceptional customer service, financial performance, and professional growth. Familiarity with current and emerging economic trends, technologies, and best practices in local government finance and budgeting is essential. The candidate will possess strong interpersonal and technical skills, be recognized as a team player, and demonstrate respect and positivity while working with diverse groups. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Public Administration, Business, or related field. Knowledge in a general professional or technical field.
- Five (5) years of experience working in governmental fund accounting and budgeting.
