Job Description


  • Supervise and monitor the daily, monthly and annual accounting and financial functions of all district funds and reporting procedures; maintain records of all financial documents with appropriate supporting material and coding.
  • Supervise, provide direction, assign duties, train, and monitor results of the Accounting personnel (i.e. accounts payable, payroll, warehouse, fixed assets, grants management) and provide annual written evaluations.
  • Work under the direction of the Superintendent to prepare and maintain all school district budgets.
  • Coordinate the year-end independent audit and provide access to all financial documentation necessary.
  • Assist Administration with grant development and amendments when necessary.
  • Coordinate all District grant accounting and financial reporting and ensure compliance with all District, State and Federal laws, rules, guidelines and regulations, including GASB.
  • Provide information, prepare periodic reports, and maintain all necessary records as requested by the Administration, Department of Education and the District’s outside auditors.
  • Primary administrator for accounting software, provides technical guidance and consultation to business office and staff by troubleshooting database problems, investigates and resolves accounting issues, working with user profiles and levels of access, serves as a liaison with other sites in determining needs assessments and resolving general operating problems and interfacing with the software vendor.
  • Performs accounting system rollovers, connection groups, and modules in the portal.
  • Supervise and coordinate purchases and accounts payable functions and payroll functions ensuring expenditures are charged to appropriate accounts.
  • Performs all banking and investing functions of the District.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by the Superintendent or Board and act as an advisor to the Superintendent on all questions relating to the business and financial affairs of the District.


  • Prefer Bachelor’s degree in business/accounting or Master’s in Business Administration or CPA license, or a minimum of 15 years of experience in business/accounting.
  • Prefer experience in governmental accounting/bookkeeping or have the ability to perform difficult accounting work requiring independent judgment and initiative with the ability to problem solve and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in accounting procedures and budget oversight of school or public/municipal financial operations or equivalent experience in business/corporate setting.
  • Experience in coordinating an internal audit process; experience in monitoring federal grants and/or special projects; ability to develop systems that improve workflow and insure accuracy in reporting.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective supervision and personnel management in accounting operations with the ability to train, supervise and build strong team relationships; ability to appropriately communicate with staff at all levels and others including vendors, law enforcement and other agencies; ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with frequent interruptions and competing priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills, computer skills, Microsoft Excel skills and knowledge of accounting databases.
  • Work independently with little direction in fast-paced environment; organize, prioritize and schedule work.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
