Job Description

Job Duties:

This position is responsible for the Central Payroll Office and its administrative management within the Accounting Department. Duties include but are not limited to the verification and balancing of all certified payrolls for the various departments and agencies of Jefferson Parish, including 16 entities. Employee is responsible for the supervision of the entire Payroll department particularly training and supervision of the Payroll department personnel, related to the development of and compliance with policies; processing of biweekly payroll data; processing of transactions related to changes in employee status or information; calculation of annual leave payments to employees; approval of correspondence and payroll-related vouchers; and completion and filing of required monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Current employment with Jefferson Parish and permanent civil service status in the classification of Payroll Officer, Assistant.

OR

Possession of an accredited Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Management, Human Resources, Public Administration, or closely related; plus, at least five (5) years of full-time, paid work experience using an electronic payroll system to perform the following functions: calculating employee payroll, worker status changes, employee benefits, and employment taxes. Experience must have included at least two (2) years working in a supervisory capacity.

OR

Possession of a accredited Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Management, Human Resources, Public Administration, or closely related; plus, at least three (3) years of full-time, paid work experience using an electronic payroll system to perform the following functions: calculating employee payroll, worker status changes, employee benefits, and employment taxes. Experience must have included at least two (2) years working in a supervisory capacity.

Preferred: Certification as a Payroll Professional (CPP) given by the American Payroll Association.
