Keynote Speakers to Highlight
GFOA's 109th Annual Conference in Philadelphia

(Chicago, Illinois⎯ May 5, 2015) The Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) 109th Annual Conference, Innovation and Resilience, will be held May 31-June 3, 2015, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. The keynote speakers will be John C. Bogle, who will speak during the opening general session, and Mayor Michael Nutter, who will address delegates during the general session.

John C. Bogle, the Founder and former CEO of The Vanguard Group, Inc., President of the Bogle Financial Markets Research Center, and best-selling author, will participate in a discussion with moderator, Joe Mysak, Editor of the daily Bloomberg Brief, during the opening general session on Monday, June 1. Labeled as one of the investment industry’s four “Giants of the 20th Century” by Fortune and one of the 100 most powerful and influential people by TIME magazine, Mr. Bogle will discuss his experience and thoughts on public finance and investing - including how his work to revolutionize low cost index fund investing can be applied to meet unique challenges faced by the public sector. He will also take questions directly from delegates in attendance.

On Tuesday, June 2, Michael Nutter, the Mayor of the City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, since 2008, will address the GFOA’s general session with a presentation, “The New City: Tech and Innovation in a Changing Philadelphia.” Echoing the conference’s themes, Mayor Nutter’s leadership has embodied both innovation and resilience, steering the City through the worst recession since the Great Depression and pioneering initiatives that harness technology to improve service delivery, expand the technology sector, and create learning partnerships to ensure that Philadelphians have a foothold in the future of this fast-growing field.

The GFOA annual conference unites thousands of public finance professionals to share ideas, develop technical and managerial skills, view new products, and network with peers. Participants can select from preconference training seminars, concurrent sessions, and discussion groups to customize their own educational curriculum. Sessions cover the following areas: accounting, auditing, and financial reporting; budgeting; capital planning and economic development; debt management; financial management; pension and benefit administration; and treasury and investment management.
