The whole idea behind the book Giving Voice to Values is explained by the subtitle: How to Speak Your Mind When You Know What’s Right. This approach grew out frustration and disillusionment with educational and organizational training for ethics and values-driven leadership, whether it was in universities, businesses, or the public sector. We tended to approach values-related issues and ethical issues as if the process were entirely cognitive, as if it were entirely a matter of analysis—that you would be given a situation and then you had to figure out the right answer to this ethical dilemma.
