Job Description: 

The City of Dover Finance Department is currently seeking applicants for the position of Accountant II. This position performs professional accounting work in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles; examines, analyzes, and verifies fiscal records and reports; assists in the preparation of financial reports and provides advice and information on accounting practices and procedures; may provide work direction to technical and clerical employees. The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience of accepted principles and interrelationships of accounting, auditing, and fiscal management; of accounting systems and data processing interrelationships; interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data and knowledge of creating financial reports which includes combining and presenting financial data from multiple sources in an organized format.

The position requires excellent communication skills both orally and in writing. The candidate must be able to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of daily work duties. Advanced knowledge and experience with Excel is required. An Associate Degree in Accounting and four (4) years of accounting and financial reporting experience is required.
