Job Description:

The City of Delta is home to approximately 100,000 residents and prides itself on its past and its sustainable future as part of the Metro Vancouver region. Delta encompasses 180 square kilometres bordered by the Fraser River on the north, the United States border and Boundary Bay on the south, the City of Surrey on the east and the Strait of Georgia on the west. Its estimated household average income is 30% higher than the Canadian average and the city has one of the fastest growing industrial areas in Greater Vancouver with an unparalleled lifestyle offered to residents.

Rarely does such a strategic financial leadership role become available in such a progressive, local government setting in Metro Vancouver. Through the planned retirement of the incumbent, the City of Delta seeks a new Director of Finance – the most senior finance role at the City. Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Director of Finance will play a key role on the senior leadership team and work effectively with Mayor & Council plus a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders and partner groups.

In addition to bringing impeccable financial acumen in a public sector setting, the new Director will provide proven collaborative leadership skills and team management, creativity around financial planning for capital projects plus experience in leading the development of effective strategic five-year financial plans. The ideal candidate will bring a CPA designation along with many years of broad based financial reporting and budgeting experience. A demonstrated ability to oversee a complex portfolio, which includes IT as well as Procurement, plus being on top of revenue and expenditures in a multi-faceted municipal organization, which has numerous financial priorities, will be key to this individual’s success.

Ideally, the selected candidate will have shown throughout their career an ability to work effectively with emerging projects and programs and understand concepts being brought forward for timely decision-making. The City requires an individual who has developed and executed on a financial game plan with specific deadlines and has the ability to work effectively with elected and non-elected officials on long term planning initiatives. A track record of building trust with others and an ability to effectively work across cross-functional areas in order to achieve desired results for the organization are also essential.
