With the retirement of our Finance Director after 21 years, we are looking for a teammate to join the City's leadership. This position serves as the chief financial officer for the City of Morganton and requires professional accounting knowledge and managerial abilities required to oversee the operations of the Finance Department. Department responsibility includes financial reporting, treasury, investments, billing and collections of taxes and municipal services, and other accounting divisions and operations.

Key qualifications:

  • 7-10 years’ experience in finance administration including expertise in public agency finance, budgeting, investment, treasury, governmental accounting, auditing and reporting functions along with supervisory experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GASB standards, NC general laws, and administrative policies governing municipal financial practices and procedures.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance, business or public administration or a related field is highly desirable. In lieu of degree, extensive work experience in governmental finance, administration, accounting, and supervisory experience may be considered.
  • Experience in NC local government finance, possession of CPA and/ or NC-CLGFO certifications are highly desirable.
