Under general direction of the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant is responsible for analyzing financial information, detailing assets, liabilities and capital. Prepares balance sheet, profit loss statement and other reports to summarize current and/or projected City’s financial position. Compiles monthly financial statements, performs general ledger accounting and assists in coordination of audit functions with external auditors. Provides assistance in the development of the annual budget and monitors budget activities and assists in preparing the final budget document for approval by City Council. Uses independent judgement to perform advanced and specialized accounting assignments, which may involve complex and confidential data. Provides work leadership and direction to clerical workers as needed. May also provide special project assistance to the Finance Director or Accounting Manager.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or Finance, or a closely related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of transactional accounting experience, preferably working with a governmental agency or in public accounting.
