Job Description

ACCOUNTANT I:

Performs technical and administrative accounting work in maintaining the fiscal records and systems of the City. Works under the general supervision of the Director of Finance or Assistant Finance Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Completes various tax returns including sales, fuel, building and contractor’s surcharges.
  • Prepares various routine accounting schedules.
  • Prepares periodic reports.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual budget and other State or Federal reports.
  • Makes journal entries to balance and close monthly books in general ledger, revenue and expense accounts.
  • Reconciles general ledger and subsidiary utility accounts.
  • Maintains the fixed asset accounts of the City.
  • Reconciles bank statements.
  • Assist in preparation of year-end reports and audit schedules.
