The Accountant is a middle-level professional position serving under the supervision of the Finance Director, exercising independent judgment and working with minimal supervision, but seeking direction, on occasion, from the Director on substantive matters.

The main focus of this position is to keep/update the general ledger and all accounting records, to monitor the trail balance, to record journal entries, and to reconcile the general bank account with accounting records for the City of Ottumwa. The Accountant is to assist in preparing the annual budget, annual Financial Report, outstanding obligations and Road Use Tax report, and other projects as needed. Additionally, the Accountant is responsible for providing assistance during the annual financial audit and other finance related operations.
