SALARY RANGE: $53,996.80 - $93,242.66 per year, depending on experience

THE REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION (RTC) OF WASHOE COUNTY, NEVADA, an integrated transportation agency that serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), transit authority, and street and highway construction agency invites applications for the position of Accounting and Payroll Specialist.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Under general supervision, the Accounting and Payroll Specialist performs a variety of routine accounting tasks and technical payroll accounting functions while maintaining accurate, complete, and organized accounting records.

This class is distinguished from the Accounting Specialist by the complexity of payroll duties assigned, the level of responsibility assumed, and the independence exercised.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Processing accounting transactions using computerized accounting software in an accurate and timely manner
  • Maintaining benefits and time sheet tables and all aspects of confidentiality of employee, client information, and financial records
  • Reviewing source documents and tracking invoices while monitoring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and RTC procedures and determining proper handling of financial and technical transactions
  • Preparing bi-weekly payroll, preparing all related payroll and benefit reports, and preparing and submitting various financial and technical reports as required
  • Researching, auditing, and analyzing accounting and technical transactions to resolve questions and validate data
  • Maintaining records and files associated with accounting systems and purchasing requisitions
  • Reconciling transactions and data according to policies, recording changes, resolving differences, reviewing accounting records, and correcting errors as required
  • Assisting in the audit of vouchers payable and reviewing accounts payable for accuracy, proper coding, and discounts taken or missed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered, candidates must meet one of the following:

  • Three (3) years of applicable accounting experience AND high school diploma or above
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential duties.
