Richardson, Texas, is a thriving, economically stable suburb of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, one of the most dynamic and robust regions in the country. Richardson has a population of 119,469 residents and encompasses 28.5 square miles within Dallas and Collin counties. In addition to easy access to major highways and airports, four Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) light rail stations within the City provide convenient connections to surrounding communities. The City of Richardson seeks an experienced Assistant Director of Finance with a background in accounting/budgeting, sound technical and computer skills, and outstanding communication skills as this position must be comfortable making presentations to City Council and the management team and working closely with the City Manager’s Office.

The ideal candidate will have effective leadership, organizational, and analytical skills and be a skilled problem-solver. The new Assistant Director must be proficient in governmental finance theory and concepts, including but not limited to, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB) statements/pronouncements, and applicable municipal laws and regulations.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration, accounting, finance, or a related field and a minimum of five years of experience in municipal financial management with increasingly responsible supervisory experience. Candidates with appropriate accounting skills/background from the private sector will be considered. Municipal supervisory experience in accounting, cash and investments, debt management, property tax, purchasing, municipal court, and fleet and water customer services (utility billing and meter reading) is preferred. Possession of a CPA license and/or GFOA or GFOAT certification is a plus. Candidates must be willing to work required evenings and some weekends, as projects or presentations require. A valid Texas Class C driver’s license is required.

The annual compensation range for this position is $125,000-$145,000 based on experience and qualifications.
