The City of Coppell seeks a motivated self-starter with advanced knowledge of accounting, financial, and auditing functions to serve as its next Chief Accountant. The ideal candidate will be analytical and empathetic, technical and collaborative, and a strong servant leader. The next Chief Accountant must have a recent knowledge of the financial structure of local governmental accounting and be familiar with current and upcoming GASB pronouncements.

The ideal candidate will be able to effectively lead, manage, participate, and follow timelines for projects. They will be able to multitask and determine the severity of need of each task, as well as be knowledgeable and self-aware enough to know when and to whom to ask questions. The next Chief Accountant will be knowledgeable in the areas of Governmental Accounting Standards issued by GASB and have the ability to read, interpret and implement new standards issued by GASB. They will also have knowledge and experience regarding fund accounting, cash management, financial reporting, and fixed assets as well as experience planning, leading, and managing the annual budget. They will be willing and able to read and interpret accounting and finance-related information and publications and apply relevant information to the Finance Department.

The Chief Accountant position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, three years of experience in a finance-related role, and one year of supervisory experience. Candidates must have experience working in a municipal government setting. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred. A Government finance Officer Association (GFOA) Certification with additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of the CPA.

The salary range for this position is $88,059 - $107,859 depending on qualifications and experience.
