Job Description

The City of Sacramento is seeking a City Auditor to drive efficiency, transparency, and accountability within our government. This role requires someone experienced in conducting financial, operational, performance, and compliance audits, as well as fraud investigations and risk assessments in the public sector. This role will serve as lead administrator, and at times investigator for the City’s whistleblower hotline. They will look for opportunities to reduce redundancy, improve efficiencies, and identify better ways to use information technology to cut costs, without reducing services. The ideal candidate will be a skilled professional with a CPA or CIA certification, and a background in leading or supervising audit teams in the public sector. They will oversee a team of 10 staff members and a budget of $1.8 million. They will also collaborate with the City Council to develop the annual audit plan and conduct audits across various departments and offices. In addition to audits, they will represent the Office, ensure internal controls, provide recommendations, and support the team. Strong communication skills and diplomacy are essential for working with elected or appointed officials.
