JOB SUMMARY
The Controller will oversee all financial and accounting operations at the CRVA. This role requires a highly detail-oriented and experienced financial professional to manage financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong financial management and accounting background, with expertise in ensuring adherence to government regulations, GASB (Governmental Accounting Standards Board) or FASB (Federal Accounting Standards Board) compliance, and other relevant rules and standards.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Duties
- Oversees and ensures the accuracy and integrity of the CRVA's accounting records, encompassing daily operations related to accounts payable, inventory management, cash flow, accounts receivable, payroll, capital assets, and general ledger activities.
- Develops, recommends, and implements strategic financial objectives, policies, and procedures as communicated from the Director of Finance and the Chief Financial Officer that align with the CRVA's overall goals and regulatory requirements.
- Establishes and enforces robust financial controls and policies to ensure all transactions comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and applicable legal provisions.
- Prepares and delivers timely, comprehensive financial reports that summarize and project key business metrics, including treasury and cash flow management, income, expenses, and earnings based on historical data and future projections.
- Leads the budget preparation process, including reviewing venue and departmental revenue projections, having conversations with Directors, analyzing supporting documentation, and ensuring alignment with CRVA priorities and strategic plans.
- Oversees fiscal management and expense monitoring for capital improvement projects across all departments to ensure cost control and compliance with budgetary guidelines.
- Provides executive leadership and board committees with timely, accurate financial statements and regular updates on the CRVA's financial performance and programmatic outcomes.
- Directs and manages the annual audit process, including the preparation of audited financial statements and liaison with external auditors to ensure compliance with applicable standards and requirements.
- Establishes and maintains strategic relationships with banking institutions, financial partners, and key stakeholders to support organizational financial health and operational efficiency.
- May perform additional duties and responsibilities as required to meet the evolving needs of the CRVA.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
- This job is responsible for overseeing employees who directly work on the CRVA's accounting records, and completes budgetary analysis, preparation, and review.
- This job will have periodic access to confidential data including staff wages and salaries, financial statements, company records, Board meeting minutes, customer quotes, company proposals, product costs, and company plans, designs, and/or programs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
- Directly supervises four non-supervisory employees in the Finance department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the CRVA's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Language Ability:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.
Math Ability:
- A strong general math, business math and algebra background is essential.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Customer Service Ability:
- Ability to anticipate customer needs, builds positive relationships with customers and vendors, goes the extra mile to satisfy and exceed customer needs, treats all customers and vendors with highest degree of respect and courtesy, and delivers exceptional service to internal and external customers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year college or university; and seven to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certified Management Account (CMA) or a minimum of 5 years managing a finance/accounting team.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual ideally would have knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, Momentus or other event management software, ADP or other Human Resources Information Systems.
