Controller
Larimer County is looking for an experienced and skilled professional to join our Finance Department as the Controller!
In this key leadership role, you'll oversee the county's financial operations, ensure accurate and transparent financial reporting, and manage critical accounting and compliance functions.
This hybrid position offers a great balance of flexibility and collaboration. You'll have the option to work in the office two days a week and remotely three days a week, with a flexible Monday–Friday schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Ensure compliance with state and federal statutes concerning financials, audits, and tax information requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) applicable to government accounting.
- Direct and manage daily accounting department operations, including payment processing, purchasing card program, and vendor management.
- Product Owner for the County's financial system.
- Direct the annual statutory audit and federal grants audit (Single Audit) process.
- Direct the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
- Exercise direct supervision over professional and administrative staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong technical background in accounting and finance, including scope and application of laws and regulations pertaining to governmental accounting, auditing programs, GAAP, and GASB.
- The County has earned the certificate of excellence in financial reporting from Government Finance Officers Association since 1982. We are looking for someone who will continue this effort.
- Strong understanding of federal and state grant regulations governing governmental accounting.
- Knowledge of accounting operations such as vendor management, purchasing cards, vendor payments, and 1099s.
- Ability to foster a collaborative, inclusive team culture where individuals feel supported and valued.
- Ability to create a culture of trust with the department and across the organization.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Use of complex enterprise accounting systems.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Five years of experience in governmental accounting and finance, including preparing complex financial statements such as an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), or performing similar duties and responsibilities.
- Three years of experience in preparing and implementing complex financial management systems and policies required.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience, from an accredited college or university in accounting required. Related education or experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- Three years of supervisory experience.
