Job Description

Reporting and providing primary support to the Director of Finance in the day-to-day activities of the Department to ensure the proper accounting and financial control work and administration of the City’s financial policies and procedures. Coordinates and supervises the day-to-day activities of Finance Department personnel, and insures a high level of accuracy in preparation of financial documents in accordance with City, State and Federal laws and generally accepted accounting principles. Performs the role of Director of Finance in the Director’s absence.

Essential Functions/Job Tasks

  • Manages and oversees accounting functions.
  • Assists Finance Director in staffing decisions in the Finance Department.
  • Reviews and updates financial procedures and policies ensuring they are within City guidelines and acceptable management practices.
  • Develops and oversees the preparation of financial/statistical reports and data.
  • Oversees the functions of the Finance Department and supervises the activities of the staff.
  • Reconciles receivable and payable accounts, subsidiary records, the general ledger, outstanding debt and any other reconciliations as appropriate in a bookkeeping function.
  • Prepares and posts adjusting entries.
  • Assists with the development of the annual operating budget.
  • Assists with audit preparation and review.
  • Prepares month end reports.
  • Reconciles bank statements.
    Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or a related field (Master’s Degree Preferred)
  • CPA designation required
  • 3-5 years of experience as an independent financial auditor or in finance department management/ leadership
