Director of Finance
The City of East Lansing is seeking a new Finance Director. East Lansing is a desirable residential community of 48,500 people and home to Michigan State University. East Lansing operates under the Council-Manager form of government with a full-time staff of approximately 300 and a FY2023 combined budget of $155.2 million.

The new Finance Director will be responsible for planning, directing, managing and overseeing the activities and operations of the Finance Department through an administrative capacity as the Chief Financial Officer, Budget Officer and Risk Manager for the City. This position is hired by and reports directly to the City Manager and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Manager. The Finance Department has 16 employees including four professional managers for each operational division reporting to the Director. The four divisions within the Finance Department include Assessing, Budget and Accounting, Income Tax, and Treasury.
The Finance Director must possess, at a minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field; eight years of responsible experience in fiscal services and four years of administrative and supervisory experience. A Master’s Degree in a related field is preferred. Registration or eligibility for registration a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Michigan is preferred.
