Job Description

The City of Ottawa is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Finance Director (Grade 17 -$3,518.42 to $5,453.20 bi-weekly).

Ottawa, Kansas is a community of 12,600 persons located just minutes from the Kansas City Metro Area via Interstate 35. The City has an annual budget of $43 million including the General Fund for the current year and employs 165 persons full time. The City provides a full range of services including police, municipal court, fire, streets, parks, airport, community development, cemetery, stormwater utility, electric utility, water and wastewater treatment, information technology, human resources, auditorium, facilities maintenance and financial management.

The Finance Director performs responsible administrative and financial duties, maintaining and providing proper accounting and control of all municipal, fiscal and financial records. The desired candidate should have bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public/Business Administration, or related field. Both a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible local government finance experience and five years of managerial experience are required. Must be able to obtain Government Finance Officer Association certification. CPA or MBA preferred. The candidate should possess experience with fund accounting and government finance, economic development incentives, Tyler Incode System or municipal financial systems.
