Finance Director
THE POSITION
The Town of Apex is seeking a collaborative and tech-savvy leader to serve as the next Finance Director. The Finance Director has the opportunity to work in this growing Town with AAA bond ratings and excellent stewardship of tax dollars. The Town is a fiscally responsible and well-managed government with an FY 25-26 budget of over $237 million. Reporting to the Deputy Town Manager, the Director will oversee 23.25 FTEs.
This leadership role is critical in maintaining the organization’s fiscal integrity and ensuring long-term financial stability. The Finance Director is responsible for offering strategic financial guidance to the governing body, executive leadership, and department heads, and aligning financial operations with the Town’s overall goals. The Director oversees the development of accurate fiscal records and financial systems and manages complex governmental finance and accounting functions to support the municipality’s financial health.
The Finance Director oversees the receipt of tax revenues and the collection of fees and other revenues in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, ensuring accuracy and compliance. In addition to managing the investment of public funds and maintaining relationships with banking and investment service providers, the Director is responsible for the integrity and oversight of the municipality’s centralized financial and procurement systems. The Finance Department, under the Director’s leadership, is also responsible for key operational functions including accounts payable, financial reporting, payroll, purchasing, and utility billing. These responsibilities are essential to maintaining comprehensive and transparent financial records and supporting the municipality’s overall fiscal health.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum requirements include any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in accounting or business, with five or more years of experience in public finance administration with increasing supervisory responsibility.
Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, certified public accountant (CPA) and/or certified Local Government Finance Officer.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The expected hiring range is $145,000-$170,000, depending on qualifications, with an excellent benefits package.
