Finance Director / CFO – Apache County (Hybrid Work Option)

ABOUT THE ROLE:
Apache County is seeking an experienced and strategic Finance Director/CFO to lead and oversee all county accounting, budgeting, and fiscal operations. This highly responsible position plays a critical role in planning, implementing, and evaluating the County’s financial activities. Flexible hybrid work options are available.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the County’s fund accounting, general ledger, and financial reporting systems
- Supervise the purchasing department and ensure statutory compliance
- Direct the accounts payable, fixed assets, and inventory processes, maintaining rigorous controls
- Lead the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, and coordinate annual audits
- Develop and manage the County’s annual budget, including projections, analysis, and reporting
- Calculate and submit tax rates and financial documents to the Arizona Department of Revenue
- Represent the County in meetings with external agencies and stakeholders
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Finance Department staff
- Prepare reports and make presentations to the Board of Supervisors and County leadership
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and active CPA license
- Minimum 7 years of professional accounting experience, with at least 3 years in an administrative or management role
- Experience in audit processes preferred
- Knowledge of governmental fund accounting, budgeting, and Arizona fiscal regulations
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
