Finance Director / CFO – Apache County (Hybrid Work Option)

Department: Finance

Status: Full-time/Exempt

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Apache County is seeking an experienced and strategic Finance Director/CFO to lead and oversee all county accounting, budgeting, and fiscal operations. This highly responsible position plays a critical role in planning, implementing, and evaluating the County’s financial activities. Flexible hybrid work options are available.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the County’s fund accounting, general ledger, and financial reporting systems
  • Supervise the purchasing department and ensure statutory compliance
  • Direct the accounts payable, fixed assets, and inventory processes, maintaining rigorous controls
  • Lead the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, and coordinate annual audits
  • Develop and manage the County’s annual budget, including projections, analysis, and reporting
  • Calculate and submit tax rates and financial documents to the Arizona Department of Revenue
  • Represent the County in meetings with external agencies and stakeholders
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Finance Department staff
  • Prepare reports and make presentations to the Board of Supervisors and County leadership

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and active CPA license
  • Minimum 7 years of professional accounting experience, with at least 3 years in an administrative or management role
  • Experience in audit processes preferred
  • Knowledge of governmental fund accounting, budgeting, and Arizona fiscal regulations
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
