Job Description

The Prince George's County Office of Finance is seeking an experienced, management-level accountant to coordinate and organize the completion of required financial reports, review journal entries and monthly trial balances, and assist the Associate Director with developing policies and procedures.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

  • Prepare the County's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), Single Audit Report, Indirect Cost Allocation Plan, State Report, and EPA Certification Report
  • Plan, organize, and review the preparation of financial reports and supporting workpapers by the professional accounting staff, including delegating work and providing hands-on technical and analytical guidance relating to complex issues
  • Review journal entries and other work products submitted by staff accountants for all funds and accounts for conformity with GAAP and County policies
  • Review monthly trial balances to ensure system integrity; Identify and research questionable activity indicating transaction errors or omissions
  • Function as lead Finance representative to the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) team on matters relating to financial accounting and reporting; serve as a subject matter expert in support of financial software implementations and upgrades
  • Analyze and implement Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) mandated financial accounting and reporting changes
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure that financial activities are recorded using sound business practices and strong internal controls
  • Supervise staff in the performance of their assigned duties and responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance, information, and advice to Finance Office staff, other County agencies, persons doing business with the County, residents, or other persons making inquiries about areas of responsibility

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree from an accredited College or University in Accounting, Finance, Quantitative Analyses or Business Administration or a closely related field,
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible accounting and budgeting experience including at least three (3) years of supervisory experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO), or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) certification
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Experience managing a complex accounting operation
  • At least three (3) years' experience administering governmental accounting principles and standards to ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements
  • At least three (3) years' experience supervising and managing senior accountants
  • Ability to provide sound accounting and reporting advice to senior management
  • Experience working with external auditors, government agencies, and component units
  • Experience developing and managing year-end close checklist
  • Experience planning, organizing, and prioritizing responsibilities
  • Excellent communication skills
