Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Financial Support Specialist, you’ll play a key role in utility accounting and customer service operations. Under the guidance of the System Accountant, you will utilize your data analytics and reporting talent to:

  • Data Collection and Entry: Gathering, organizing, and entering utility data into relevant systems or databases to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Data Cleaning and Validation: Extracting, cleaning, and validating data from existing systems to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance throughout the process.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Conducting exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and correlations, and interpreting findings to provide meaningful insights to support business objectives.
  • Report Generation and Visualization: Developing and generating regular reports for various departments, summarizing key metrics, and creating visualizations to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Database Management: Assisting in maintaining and updating databases, ensuring data integrity and accessibility for analysis.
  • Collaboration: Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and tailor analytical approaches to address specific challenges.
  • Continuous Learning: Staying abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data analysis to enhance skills and contribute to team growth.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

Required:

  • Education: Two years of experience in accounting, data science, economics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field (Associate degree or equivalent experience)

Preferred:

  • Database Management: Experience with SQL for effective database querying and management.
  • Data Visualization: Familiarity with tools such as Tableau or Power BI to create insightful visual representations of data.
  • Statistical Analysis: A solid understanding of statistical concepts and methodologies to interpret data accurately.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to analyze large datasets, identify trends, and derive actionable insights. Effective problem-solving skills to address data-related challenges and propose logical solutions.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex data findings to non-technical stakeholders clearly. Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment, contributing to collective goals.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulousness in handling data to ensure accuracy and reliability in analysis.
  • Continuous Learning: A commitment to staying updated with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies in data analysis.
  • Education: Working on a bachelor’s degree in accounting, data science, economics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Prior Government Experience: Experience in municipal/government accounting
