Job Description

Maximus is currently seeking a well-organized individual with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to fill our Junior Cost Analyst role in our Financial Services group. This is an onsite position located in Tallahassee, FL. It is full-time and will assist in cost allocation plan development, cost analysis, indirect cost rate development, and provide support to the project manager/team members. This position will also be responsible for analyzing client accounting and/or financial information and developing solutions to achieve financial objectives.

Candidates must be detail-oriented and possess problem-solving skills. Additionally, candidates will possess an intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Excel (includes familiarity with pivot tables and VLOOKUP formulas), PowerPoint, Word, and Teams. Candidates must also possess a fundamental understanding of basic accounting principles/concepts and an interest in local municipalities and state government. The candidate should possess the ability to work in a team environment or independently and demonstrate initiative (i.e. proactively seeking out tasks. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support projects and initiatives by analyzing costs, processes and/or procedures for government agencies.
  • Prepare cost allocation and cost of service studies for state and local governments.
  • Produce high quality project deliverables that meet or exceed performance expectations including scope of work requirements, financial objectives (revenue and profit goals), and implementation time frames.
  • Gather necessary client financial information (such as expenditure reports, revenue reports, billing invoices, budgets, time sheets, work orders, fixed asset reports, depreciation reports, contracts, and general ledgers).
  • Analyze complex data to identify patterns, recommend actions and measure outcomes.
  • Conduct research of new and existing state and federal regulations.
  • Analyze general ledger/financial data, accounts, and prepare reports documenting findings of analyses.
  • Participate in client meetings, develop strong client relationships while seeking opportunities to add value.
  • Achieve and/or exceed client satisfaction metrics.
  • Travel to client office (as needed).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with 0-3 years of experience consulting within designated function. - Able to develop solutions to moderately complex problems.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office knowledge or experience required, with a particular emphasis on Excel.
  • 6+ months of related work or internship experience preferred.
  • Must be able and willing to travel as client needs necessitate.
  • Understanding of cost accounting/cost allocation concepts preferred.
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting principles preferred.
  • Familiarity with local government operations preferred.
