Job Description

City of Globe Overview:

The City of Globe has a colorful history as a mining town dating back to 1876. They were incorporated into a city in 1907. Globe is located 87 miles east of Phoenix. Globe has a population of 7,500 but continues to have progressive, managed growth. Globe is looking for a technically sound, collaborative with great communication and customer service skills to be the City's Senior Accountant.

General Purpose:

Under the general director of the Finance Director, the Senior Accountant is responsible for performing various general accounting functions, including preparing various financial reports, analyzing, and reconciling accounts, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, preparing payroll with required reports, and tracking of fixed assets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Senior Accountant:

  • Responsible for the month-end closing process, ensuring transactions are correctly posted.
  • Prepares various financial reports, reconciliations, worksheets, and schedules.
  • Assists in the preparation and management of the budget.
  • Prepares payroll for all City personnel, ensuring all employees are paid accurately.
  • Reconciles accounts payable invoices for payment.
  • Prepares quarterly and annual payroll reports.
  • Analyzes and reconciles various general ledger accounts.
  • Identifies, tracks, and reconciles fixed assets monthly.
  • Reconciles bank statements.
  • Performs internal audits.
  • Prepares and processes journal entries.
  • Prepares various audit schedules and works with city City’s external auditors.
  • Assists with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Reconciles daily cash receipt transactions.
  • Monitors and records ACH deposits to bank accounts from other agencies
  • Investigate accounting-related inquiries.
  • Supervise accounting staff.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of post-secondary accounting coursework.
  • Two (2) plus years' experience as an accounting financial professional.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and incorporate requirements to prepare an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR)
  • Extensive experience in operating with a financial software system

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Municipal government experience.
  • Experience with Caselle Financial Software.
  • Municipal government experience.
  • Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities will be considered
