Job Description

Los Angeles Unified School District is seeking a Controller with extensive professional public-school financial management experience, who is organizationally astute and a diplomatic and public service-centered leader, to direct and coordinate the administration of the assist the Chief Financial Officer with the administration of the Accounting and Disbursements Division.

The ideal candidate will be a financial management professional with California public school experience.

The Controller must possess a strong foundation of technical knowledge, demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, a strong service orientation, and commitment to the educational mission of the District.

He/she should have a proven track record which includes successful experience working with large scale enterprise systems and experience in balancing finance responsibilities with other initiatives necessary to optimize and improve District operating performance.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate their commitment to the profession by possessing a master’s degree or registration as a Certified Public Accountant.

The ideal candidate will relish the pace and the pressures of both large- and small-scale technical challenges, they will welcome the opportunity to find creative and innovative solutions to problems, and enjoy leading and working with bright, motivated colleagues and staff.

This is a job where a person can use their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to find solutions to a broad range of concerns that will often reach beyond standard compliance issues.

We are looking for an individual who practices a collaborative decision-making style with the ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with key members of the executive team, board members and others.

He/she must also have strong decision-making experience and demonstrate the ability to consider the conflicting needs, options and information available to make and stand by their decision.

The Controller assists the Chief Financial Officer with the administration of the Accounting and Disbursements Division by planning, organizing, directing, and reviewing the functions of accounting for all District funds; treasury; audit; payroll administration and a wide variety of related financial and reporting functions.
