Contributions to the Profession/Jurisdiction

  • Currently serves as department head for the City of Red Wing; provide support to business administration director, council administrator, and various city departments; represent the city at various meetings; interact with outside consultants on a regular basis
  • Coordinate city-wide budgeting process and prepare budget for council approval; manage cash flows and investments; prepare financial statement (AFR); administer TIF districts; work with city consultant on bond issues
  • Coordinate annual audit, file annual reports; participate in annual strategic planning process with other department heads and council, develop and maintain long-term forecasting, and manage reporting for component units
  • Testified before the Minnesota State Legislature
  • Served on the Minnesota GFOA Executive Board; chaired the State conference two times; chaired the Education Committee for two years; head of several task forces
  • Member of the following groups: The Fire Service Advisory Committee authorized by the State Legislature (also served on the grant creation committee); The State Auditor's Task Force on TIF; The State Auditor's Working Group on Volunteer Fire Relief Pensions; Metro Cities Fiscal Disparities Subcommittee; Metro Cities and LMC Revenue and Fiscal policy committees; League of Minnesota Cities (served on policy committees and Nominating Committee); Student Auditing Conference board
  • Ex-officio of Fire Relief Associations: Lake Elmo, Mahtomedi, New Germany, NYA
  • Instructor for Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Governmental Accounting courses for the Minnesota GFOA

Goals for GFOA

  • Education – GFOA should continually take leadership in promoting fiscal policies and practices to ensure sound management of public resources
  • Training – Technology is new and evolving. We need to stay in the forefront to help GFOA members stay connected
  • Recruitment – Attract new Accounting and Finance students as they will be the future of GFOA
